  • Josefa Icaj Esquina, of Panabaj, Guatemala, with one of her children in a room in a school that has been transformed into a shelter. She lost her husband and two other children when Panabaj, a small Mayan town, was destroyed by mudslides earlier in the month when Hurricane Stan spawned torrential rains over parts of Central America. Friends say Josefa is suffering from psychological shock after the disaster, and she breaks out in fits of anger and does not eat sufficiently.
