Intown Atlanta bed and breakfast owner Adele Northrup, pouring tea, said she wants her housekeeper, who is a Mexican immigrant, to speak only English while working for her. The same goes for everyone whom she employs. "I don't like being a stranger in my own house." she said. She gave the housekeeper (who asked to not be identified) a Spanish-English dictionary for Christmas. Northrup said her grandparents, who emigrated to the United States from Russia, "got with the program right away" and learned the English language.
